Working at Lauriston
We would like to thank you for considering employment at Lauriston Girls’ School.
Our staff are part of our Lauriston community where they will be supported in their professional work and encouraged to form collaborative and positive relationships with their colleagues, their students, parents and our wider school community.
Every member of staff at Lauriston is a role model for our students. We have been a proud girls’ school for more than 100 years and we all play a part in supporting our students to become confident and purposeful young people who will make a meaningful contribution in the world.
We are a school that likes to think about what education will look like in the future and how we can best equip our students for the changing world. We are progressive in our thinking and strive to find a balance between our traditions and contemporary thinking about the needs of young people and the changing nature of our workforce.
We have high expectations for ourselves and our students. We know that education is the foundation for a purposeful and flourishing life. We want every day to be meaningful for our children and young people and we want our teachers and general staff to use their skills and talents to provide an engaging and happy learning environment.

Amongst the many professional learning programs that our teaching staff undertake is the whole school initiative known as Quality Teaching Rounds (QTR). This program is unique in that all Lauriston staff across Junior School, Senior School and Howqua are involved. Developed in 2003 by Associate Professor James Ludwig and Laureate Professor Jenny Gore from the University of Newcastle, its primary focus is on improving the quality of the classroom teaching. It has been the subject of multiple rigorous research studies over the past 20 years and has been shown to improve the outcomes for students in the classrooms by encouraging teachers to focus on 18 different elements in each of their classes.
Many of our Lauriston teaching staff have completed the extensive training offered by the University of Newcastle to ensure that they understand these elements, and how to effectively focus on them in the classroom. As educators, we find that these concepts tie in with much of the already established classroom practice - the model clearly articulates what we believe to be excellence in classroom teaching and provides us with a rigorous teaching framework.
“I do believe that QTR remains one of the most powerful forms of professional learning. It is impossible to watch a colleague teach and not to learn.”
